The Meraki Forest
Year 2, year end exhibit
April 2023
Reimagining space, follow a witch’s journey and awaken your senses. Unravel hints to unlock the
mystery of the witch’s disappearance in the Meraki forest.
The Meraki Forest was a collaborative class exhibition. Following the narrative of Ashelle Galawind,
a young witch who has disappeared from her tree hut. Visitors were tasked with finding the answers
to her disappearance using the clues scattered around the exhibit. Inside the tree hut, Ashelle’s
possessions had been spelled to reveal the verbal encounter from the night of her vanishing.
Objects were made to be touch reactive through the use of an arduino and it played our recorded
audio when tripped.
In a team of 4 I worked on the tree hut installation. We built the tree structure from recycled Ikea
cardboard skids. I worked on the witch’s audio, worked on the interior layout and printed large
format tree bark texture onto canvas paper to wrap the inside walls with. Some other elements of
the exhibit I worked on is the Exhibit Soundtrack with 1 other student. I recorded myself playing the
Kalimba instrument, supplied immersive ambient sound effects and sound editing. Overall, these
elements blend together, creating a magical, immersive and gamified experience.
